Like its country of origin, the Persian carpet is bravely attempting a balancing act between tradition and modernity. The multi-award-winning Iranian designer Hossein Rezvani is reimagining this age-old craft. There is a new generation of young people in the Islamic Republic of Iran who, despite the rigid laws that still exist, maintain a modern outlook and lifestyle – a generation that loves Rezvani’s new Persian carpets as much as his many fans around the world do. Hossein Rezvani himself lives in Hamburg, the centre of the European carpet trade, but his wares are all still produced by hand in the old workshops of his native Iran.
