By 2050, we will have to feed an extra two billion people. How will that be possible without overburdening the planet? Seaweeds, our most nutritious and healthiest plants are a promising food resource for the future. The Norwegians have rediscovered this potential source of food and have begun to harvest seaweed in the wild or cultivate it in aquacultural operations. Their everyday work is pioneering, and research on seaweed cultivation is still in the very early stages. Of course, seaweeds are not just beneficial for humans; they also help to protect the climate.

This “NZZ Format” presents Norwegian enterprises and pioneers that are sparing no effort in exploiting seaweeds for climate protection and as food sources for tomorrow.
