Despite the fact that the lymphatic system plays a crucial role for our state of health, it is still an enigma to medical science. However, lymphatic research is now finally starting to gain momentum.

Several men and women are getting exercise in the fitness room at the Földi Clinic in Germany’s Black Forest. Some have their legs wrapped in thick bandages, others have trouble lifting their misshapen arms. These patients have come to the Black Forest from all over the world, because this is still one of only a few places worldwide, where professional lymphoedema treatment is offered.

At the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich, the lymphatic system is now at the centre of medical research. A team of specialists are studying its functions and have already made a number of breakthroughs, which may lead to a completely new approach to the treatment of conditions like Alzheimer’s disease.
